o Dance centered from African derived culture.  It is no longer considered “African Dance,” as no one style of dance can be considered, “American Dance.”  Over the years, we  Americans have made that faux pas.  Now rightly classified as Afro-Centric Dance, because it focuses on several dance styles that come from the African Continent.

 

BELLY FUSIONfour spice

o     Belly Fusion can be a mixture of all the styles of belly dance (American Cabaret, Modern Egyptian Cabaret, Turkish Cabaret and Tribal Style (both American Tribal and Tribal Fusion)  as well as an infusion of African, Caribbean, Latin, Ballet, Modern, and Jazz dance techniques influences into is array of melting moves.  Belly Fusion is a holistic fitness vehicle that celebrates the way in which we move; celebrating our womanhood, paying homage to how we have been fearfully and wonderfully made.  Belly Fusion is usually choreographed to American Styles of music.  Belly Fusion has been seen in music videos, on stage, at community festivals, at poetry venues, and in movies.

o Hip-Hop is more than a movement; it is culture, dance, history, and music.  It is a way of thinking and relating and relaying messages.  Hip-Hop Dance embodies the soul of the street, cutting moves, atop rhythmic beats.  Hip-Hop is widely used in music videos and movies.  This style is also often used in dance battles.
KIZOMBA kizoba

o Kizomba  originated in West Africa and is the latest couples dance craze.   The soulful  movements of  Kizomba has given it the nickname, “African Tango.” This style incorporates other dance genres like salsa, bachata, merengue, samba, and lambada but uses a slow music tempo.  This particular class is geared toward couples.
LITURGICALliturgical

o Liturgical or “Praise Dancing” incorporates several styles of dance and is truly interpretive.  Movements convey the emotion of the song as well the mood and rhythm of the music. Liturgical dance can and will be performed  at various venues.
LYRICAL (BALLET)lyrical

o Lyrical dance style is also known as Lyrical Jazz, but truly has the same amount of ballet elements than jazz, if not more.  Lyrical is set to popular music and the movements are quite fluid and can include some acrobatic segments.
MAJORETTE (MODERN JAZZ)majorette

o Majorette style of dancing is derived from modern jazz, ballet, with a little bit of hip-hop.  Participants will audition for a limited number of spots and will be a performance and competition team.
